Maddy was not enjoying reading at all, neither was I for that matter, so I began doing some research. We purchased Hooked on Phonics Learn to Read 1st grade on the reccomendation of a friend. At dinner tonight Maddy actually said she LOVES reading now! What a night and day difference in a matter of a couple weeks. We are having so much more fun with school in general since we made the change in reading cirriculum. YAY!!!!
We have also been learning all about penguins. The kids are both so interested in all kinds of animals. We read the book The Emperor's Egg and watched a Nature special on Emperor Penguins. We also made a "bulletin board" on the laundry room door with some info we have learned about penguins and we each designed our own penguin.
This week we researched different types of penguins and drew life-size models on the wall in the hallway. Maddy learned that Emperor Penguins are almost as tall as she is, at about 44 inches tall and Macaroni Penguins are up to Coleman's chest, at about 33 inches tall.
Coleman even made Peter Penguin with pattern blocks.
We are about to read Mr Poppers Penguins to wrap up our penguin unit.
So, this is a little bit of what we have been up to as well as making friends with new neighbors and playing lots of board games as a family! So...FUN,FUN,FUN!
