Day 17

What a great week we have had! We have been in Bham staying with the Roche's. We have felt completely comfortable here and have enjoyed ourselves immensly. We had lunch with good friends headed to Guatemala. We had lots of fun swimming almost everyday! Maddy and Cole really enjoyed that, both are getting much braver in the water. A few things happened towards the end of the week that were pretty discouraging however it didnt last long. The real action came on Sunday morning.
Our time to speak at Hardin's Chapel Bible Church got changed from the morning service to the Sunday School hour. We got up and headed out with time to spare. As we exited I20 at Pell City our brakes completely went out. Jerry was pushing the pedal to the floor and NOTHING. We were coming up to the stop sign and red light at the bottom of the off ramp. Jerry said, "I cant stop". So I said, "well then go for it". We went right thru the red light back onto the interstate on ramp. We gradually coasted to a stop on the side of the road. We called the church to let them know we wouldnt be making it to Sunday School. (bummer) GOD IS GOOD! We have Allstate insurance and roadside assistance with a free tow so a tow truck was on its way in no time and towed our car to a local shop. Roger Kendrick left the church and came to pick us up and told us we could use his car as long and as we needed it. We get to church and Bro Doug tells Jerry to speak at the beginning of Sunday morning service. After church a guy walks up to Jerry and says he is a mechanic and he would like to meet Jerry at our car to look at it and see if he can fix it. We go to dinner at the Ford's, we have a great lunch with the Fords and Roses. Bro Doug takes Jerry to meet Tim at the car. Tim looks at the car and says he can fix it. He fixes the vehicle in an hour and a half and we are on our way - free of charge!
We came home and I cooked Shrimp Gumbo for the Roches and we had a wonderful evening together!
After 10 o'clock we climbed the stairs and began packing to head out to Omaha tomorrow.
I'm exhausted! What a day! :)
